얼마 전에 감동적인 역작 'On Intelligence' 썼던 Jeff Hawkins가

팜 사업을 같이하던 Donna Dubinsky, 제2의 MIT라 불리는 인도 IIT출신 Stanford EE PhD 학생 Dileep George, 이렇게 셋이서 Numenta라고 하는 실험적인 회사를 설립했다고 한다.

이들의 주 목적은 Hawkins의 theory를 practical한 architecture(HTM : Hierachical Temporal Memory)로 재탄생 시키는데에 있는것 같다.

일단 예상하고 있는 경로는 HTM 모듈을 만들고 이를 기반으로 한 software toolkit를 제작한 다음, developer나 researcher community를 통해 확산시키려는 정도인듯.

이들이 이렇게 할 수 있는 이유는? 돈이 많아서 일까? 실리콘밸리라는 독특한 문화 때문일까?

난 아직 멀었다고 생각했는데 벌써부터 이렇게 서두는건 무엇때문일까?

앞으로의 이들의 행보가 궁금하여 난 Numenta 홈페이지에서 newsletter를 subscribe 해버렸다.

그리고 이들이 찾고있는 엔지니어의 모습을 'Employment' 메뉴에서 넌지시 볼 수 있었는데, 이게 가관이다.

'Linux 포팅 경력 3년 이상 구함'이라고 적혀있던 국내 중소기업 구인광고와는 뭐가 달라도 다르다는 생각이든다.

Senior Engineer, Core Technology
Reporting to the VP Engineering, the Senior Engineer will be a member of our core technology group and be responsible for researching, developing and enhancing Hierarchical Temporal Memory (HTM) learning modules.

Job Responsibilities

. Help develop, prove, and extend the core HTM algorithms
. Help design and implement portion of a robust API to the core library
. Provide leadership to the rest of the organization
. Keep up to date with current techniques in the academic literature, including occasional travel to conferences
. Work closely with systems and applications teams to create the first set of compelling products

Job Requirements

. MS in Computer Science or Engineering required.
. Strong background in mathematics and statistics. Experience in three or more of the following academic fields required: signal processing, computer vision, audio analysis, neural networks, machine learning, or optimization.
. Able to demonstrate strong intellectual capabilities and significant individual contributions to algorithmic research and development.
. All experience levels will be considered. Hands on software development and technical experience required.
. Solid C/C++ programming and Matlab experience
. Experience with source code control, software release process a plus
. Experience with patent and IP process a plus

Hawkins는 computer vision, neural network, machine learning, robotics를 죽어도 깨어나도 실현하지 못하는 주제라고 책 한권 내내 설교 했으면서 이 분야의 엔지니어를 채용하려는게 참 아이러니 하다.

Numenta에 취업할건 아니지만 나 자신은 위의 requirements에 몇 가지나 부합되려나... 한 가지라도 확실하게 대답할 수 있을런지...;;;
